Syrian children and adolescences in Turkey talk about their hopes at the 4th year anniversary of the Syria Crisis

TURKEY, March 2015 – With the conflict in Syria now entering its fifth year, the situation of more than 5.6 million children inside the country remains the most desperate. That includes up to 2 million children who are living in areas of the country largely cut off from humanitarian assistance due to fighting or other factors. Some 2.6 million Syrian children are still out of school.

New education centre for Syrian children in Nizip

NİZİP/GAZİANTEP, March 18, 2015 – A new education centre for Syrian children officially opened in Gaziantep, Nizip today. The UNICEF-supported education centre was built in partnership with AFAD, and the Ministry of National Education, and with the financial support of the Government of Luxembourg. With a capacity of 1,080 students, the centre has 12 classrooms: 10 for primary education and two for pre-school education.

Flying High for Kids UNICEF branded balloon is in Turkey

ANKARA, 17 March 2015– A UNICEF branded hot air balloon was inflated today in Ankara with the participation of more than 100 children including children with disabilities. The Flying High for Kids Project, supported by UNICEF, is an overland hot air balloon journey through more than 100 countries, aiming to raise awareness about child rights.

8 March, Ankara (UN in Turkey) -International Women's Day is a success story of women around the world who fought for equality, justice and peace. It is rooted in the age-old struggle of women to bring about a better world.  But all of the progress achieved to date can be destroyed through violence against women. Unfortunately, sexual and gender-based violence is the most extreme form of the global and systemic inequality experienced by women and girls. It knows no geographic, socio-economic or cultural boundaries. Brutal murder of 20-year old Özgecan Aslan has once again strikingly demonstrated that this violence must end.
